JWOC 2009

JUNIOR WORLD ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009
Welcome to Primiero, which has been selected to organize the 2009 Junior world orienteering championships.
This valley, covered with meadows and forest is situated in the Trentino ? Southern Tirol Region, in the northern part of Italy, close to Venice and just south of the Alps between Austria and Switzerland. Primiero, together with the two valleys of Fiemme and Fassa, form the splendid territory of the Trentino Dolomites.
The FISO, the Italian Federation of Sport Orienteering together with the support of CONI, the Italian National Olympic Committee, has selected the Primiero Sport Union, to organize this event together with its main partners, the Autonomous Province of Trento, the municipalities of the valley, local county council, the Local Tourist Office, and the Paneveggio Pale of San Martino National Park. The committee that organizes these events is managed by the Primiero Sport Union, that carries out its own activities in thirteen different sports, with more than 1000 active participants. It has organized the free climbing World Cup and both national and international cross-country and downhill skiing events. With in to orienteering, it has organized the Italian Championships (classic and relay) – Italian Cups – Italian 3 day event, International race (about 2000 competitors) Arge Alp – Alpe Adria and 2006 Italian middle distance Championship. Over the years, the athletes from Primiero have participated in the various editions of the world orienteering championships, therefore they will be responsible for the technical part of this event. The various areas in which the competion will take place is most located within the natural park: a Park city sprint race, Classic, middle and relay on alpine terrain with both steep and gently rolling, cropped pasture land, mixed but mainly coniferous woods, with good rock and contour details.. At these championship, other events will also be organized, in particular, a five days international competition, the Dolomites 5 Days 2009 . A great deal of attention will be given to the media coverage of this event, which will be promoted and shown through the main channels of mass media. Primiero is a valley at the foot of the Pale of San Martino in the Italian Dolomites, surrounded by world-famous mountains, in which lively towns and historic centres overflow with an old world charm that only numerous centuries of history and a deeply-rooted tradition of hospitality can create. In the vicinity of the competition, one can find a swimming pool, a sports centre, a gym, multi-purpose sports areas, soccer fields and a running track. There are various types of Accomodations available, even low-cost accommodations, which are all located in the vicinity of the competition, Hotels, Residence, youth hostels, Bed e Breakfast, privately owned apartments, designated areas for campers and camping Primiero is also close to the main means of transportation, 20 km from the highway, 35 km from the nearest train station, and 110 km from the Venice international airport. It has always been important to our orienteering section to support the development of young members, understanding that playing sports is not just an educational activity, but also provides the opportunity to get to know new people and to grow. Our Philosophy is to teach all members, and not just the youth section, to respect the community and the natural landscape in which orienteering takes place.
